Here are some pictures taken at the Barn. One is of me (Sam Brown) sitting on the lap of Becky McKee. The dancing girls are Becky McKee, Sandy Wakefield, Brenda Smith, and Sandy Kaiser, all Greenwood girls.  All these girls, and of course me, are still around the area.

Steve Mundy sent your web address and we  are greatly impressed with your  pages.
I went the the "Barn" almost every Sun night and always had a great time. Remember Keaty(sp) and the Katts  and "Bouncing Bill Baker" WIBC  1070 on your dial.  Bouncing Bill past away this pasts summer. I remember a joke he told one night and have probably re-told it 1000 times. " A girl I went to school with had a birth defect. Her breast were on her back. She wasn't much to look at but she was sure fun to dance with"
I loved you cowboy pages. Needless to say we are probably of the same political presuasion. I think you have left out one of my old time favorite cowboys, "Whip Wilson". However, it is a great page of memories.
I am including a pic of us old WHS graduates.
Thanks for the memories,
Richard and Linda Isley

TAKE ME BACK TO THE 60'S
Lots of good memories.  Remember at 11:00 they sold their remaining burgers at 10 for a $1.00? Thanks Sam Brown for these pictures
Some of the regulars at the Barn were, Keetie and the Kats, Jerry Siefert, Jimmy Clendennin and I got to dance with the lead singer of the Shangri-las (Walking in the Sand)
Remember the TeePee, Al Green's, Southern Circle, The Pole, Merrills Hi-Decker with Dick Summers, Jerry's Restaurant, Dog n Suds, Meridan Drive-in and the South 31 Drive-in.  Do you remember any more?
"From The Columbus Jive Kennel to The Whiteland Barn To Dance"

Well, in and around 1957 through 1959 the pressure relief valve was not the Columbus Jive Kennel's ping pong, juke box dancing and cards; but the Whiteland Barn.

On Sunday nights when everyone was supposed to be studying for classes the next day at Columbus High, I was dancing with the ladies at the Whiteland Barn off North US 31 above Franklin Indiana. Rock and Roll spin records, and live bands, plus "Bouncing Bill Baker" from WIBC Indianapolis radio hosted in those days.

SONGS LIKE: "Come Lets Stroll, Stroll Across The Floor"...........and....... "Let's Twist Again, Like We Did Last Summer"...."Hey Bo-Diddley"..........."Come With Me To The Sea, To The Sea Of Love"............" Get a Job, Sean, Na Na, Yep, Yep, Yep"....... "Yackety Sacks, Yackey, Yack, Yackety Yack".........and on and on.

You say, Bob you should be ashamed of yourself for sneaking out of the Jive Kennel on Sunday nights, and not putting your nose in those books for the next day. Well, I did and I don't regret anything I did in my younger days, because I had fun and was adventurous to say it bluntly.

I wasn't a trouble maker kid, just a kid that enjoyed life and had a lot of great friends. The word party.............well where is it and I am there.

All of this didn't hurt me in life and my future had plenty of time to catch up to me, not me catching up with it. I loved to dance and that has carried throughout my whole life. Anyway, the Jive Kennel was a great place for kids to gather, but the Whiteland Barn on Sunday nights couldn't be beat.

Well, once the future caught up with my pace I became an outstanding student in College, which was a big change from my "go, go ways" of high school. So, my method of life's direction has been a trip, rewarding and of course fun.

Bob
Here is a pic of the band "The Vlasics" ,which was formed at Southport High School by some southside locals, actually performing at the Whiteland Barn.
The "Katzass" Coupe
Some of you remember (I'm sure) my old 50's Recording Artist friend and great keyboard man from right here in Indy "Jim Ganzberg". Yep, that's Jim (second from the left) in the band he now plays with. They have traveled all around the globe. Have no idea what they go by but one thing for sure, if Jimmy is a part of it, they're tough and tight!      Ronnie Haig

Hi RV,
You probably don’t remember me, since you were an upper classman (3 years ahead of me), but I was an avid patron of the magical Whiteland Barn & a big fan of Keetie & the Kats. That being said, I stumbled across the attached pin that I somehow ended up with & have kept for more years than I care to remember. I was thinking that you may have use for it in your website or maybe not. I try to explain the Barn to people & it was just that, a barn out in the boonies, & how it would have top name performers which drew people from all over central Indiana & they just look at me funny.

Great website RV! I’ll be coming back to it a lot!!

Hi again Arvie,

Though this is a great site & I can’t begin to thank you enough for putting it together, not to mention the excellent job you’ve done, but there’s something very important that’s missing. A great deal of the magic that is the Whiteland Barn & the first thing I think of is the caliber of entertainers that performed there. Here’s a real barn out in the boonies, even to the locals, where one could go on Sunday nights & see, listen & dance to the sounds of musical groups that had current & some not so current hits playing on your favorite radio station. Some of the groups that I had the distinct pleasure of enjoying were The Ventures; Dino, Desi & Billy; The Kingsmen; Question Mark & the Mysterians; The Real McCoys; Dee Dee Sharp (joined by Cassius Clay who she was dating & traveling with at the time – they performed a duet of Stand By Me); Jerry Lee Lewis; Conway Twitty; Shangri-La’s & Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (I think), just to name a few. I’m sure that Don Holt can name a bunch more. You might want to consider including this bit of information.
